Money is sooo much more than numbers in your bank account - it’s emotional, psychological, and deeply personal. How we relate to it often stems from subconscious beliefs and behaviours formed early in life. These can be changed though and you can work with a mindset coach like the lovely Holly Dannhauser to unravel where these beliefs come from and create action plans to work WITH not AGAINST your money archetype strengths.
After a very insightful day with Caroline Boardman & Holly Dannhauser we delved into the understanding of each of the money archetypes however this blog post will concentrate on two especially interesting archetypes: The Connector and The Romantic. These types offer unique strengths but also carry blind spots that can hold us back if we’re not aware of them. Let's explore what makes them tick — and how they can thrive financially.
What Are Money Archetypes?
Money Archetypes are personality types that reflect your emotional and behavioural patterns with money. The archetypes give insight into how we think, feel, and act around wealth, spending, saving, and financial goals.
The core archetypes, include The Ruler, The Maverick, The Nurturer, and The Accumulator. Each has its gifts and challenges. Knowing your dominant archetype(s) can help you transform your relationship with money from stress-filled to empowered.

The Connector: Heart-Centered and Relational
Core Beliefs
“Money isn’t the most important thing in life; people are.”
Connectors are relationship-driven and value connection, trust, and community over financial gain. They tend to be generous, optimistic, and genuinely uninterested in hoarding wealth for its own sake. Their superpower lies in building meaningful networks and collaborations.
Strengths:
Highly trustworthy — people are drawn to your authenticity.
Values-aligned — you’re not easily swayed by flashy trends.
Naturally generous — you give without keeping score.
Great at partnerships — you intuitively understand the power of connection.
Challenges:
Money avoidance — you may ignore finances or leave money decisions to others.
Undercharging or not charging at all — believing it's “not about the money.”
Dependence on relationships — feeling guilty about setting financial boundaries.
Growth Path:
To thrive, Connectors need to embrace financial education without losing their values. Learn to see money as a tool that supports your mission, not something that corrupts it. You can lead from the heart and the wallet — it’s not either/or.
The Romantic: Pleasure-Seeking and Aesthetic
Core Beliefs
“Life is meant to be enjoyed; why not spend on what makes you happy?”
Romantics love beauty, comfort, and indulgence. They believe money should be used to elevate life’s pleasures — gourmet dinners, luxurious vacations, stylish clothes, or experiences that make life feel magical. Their spending tends to be emotionally driven and inspired by the desire for love, comfort, and validation.
Strengths:
Appreciation for beauty and lifestyle — you create environments people want to be in.
Generous to a fault — giving gifts, hosting gatherings, treating others.
Intuitive spender — you follow your heart and gut when it comes to purchases.
Dreamer mindset — you envision a beautiful life and believe it’s possible.
Challenges:
Impulse spending — leading to credit card debt or financial instability.
Avoidance of budgeting — believing it's restrictive or joy-killing.
Equating money with love — using spending to gain affection or self-worth.
Growth Path:
Romantics thrive when they integrate structure with spontaneity. Set budgets that allow for pleasure but within limits. Practice mindful spending: “Does this bring lasting joy or just a momentary thrill?” Building financial security will ultimately give you more freedom to enjoy the beauty you crave.
Connector + Romantic Combo: A Beautiful Paradox
If you resonate with both archetypes, you may feel torn between giving to others and treating yourself — while sometimes ignoring the practical side of money altogether.
You might:
Gift extravagantly but feel anxious about rent.
Avoid asking for raises because “it feels awkward.”
Spend to feel connected — but not track where the money goes.
The solution? Learn to see money as relational energy. It can flow in and out with love and consciousness. It’s not about becoming rigid or stingy — it’s about aligning your spending with your values and honouring your future self as much as your present.
The Take-home Message:
There’s no “bad” Money Archetype — only unconscious behaviours that need gentle awareness. Whether you’re a Romantic who loves the good life or a Connector who treasures relationships, you can build a healthy, joyful relationship with money. It's about recognising who is in the driving seat when making money decisions and soothing the archetype that's grumbling.
Awareness is the first step to change after all!
