Finding the confidence to talk about your business also brings clarity.

Finding the confidence to talk about your business also brings clarity.

As a shy and introverted bookkeeper, I’ve often preferred spreadsheets over spotlights. But I’ve learned that speaking about what I do, even in small groups, can build confidence in myself and give me a bit of clarity around my services. When you say things out loud it makes an intention sound much more realistic doesn’t it?!

Expertise Doesn’t Need to Shout

You don’t have to be the loudest in the room to be respected. Simply sharing your processes, values, and how you help clients can establish you as someone who knows their field deeply. The Female Business Festival & Awards reminded us that confidence isn’t about being flashy - it’s about being clear, grounded, and prepared. As a speaker on their recent Summer Summit event I found myself really digging into the roots of why people call on a bookkeeper to get their finance systems sorted, and we touched on the huge amount of trust needed from the client to be able to hand over those responsibilities. This isn’t something we at LMO Bookkeeping ever take for granted.

Finding Clarity Through Speaking

If, like me you find the idea of public speaking extremely daunting, preparing to talk about your business, whether at a small networking event or an online workshop, forces you to reflect on what truly matters.

Who do you help?

Why does your work matter?

How could people benefit from working with you?

As the Festival highlights in their posts, the process of sharing builds stronger business relationships, often starting with genuine, focused conversations.

Connection on Your Own Terms

People connect with people—not just logos or services. A great example is this in our personal lives is the selling of our house. Our Estate Agent was introduced to us in a networking event and we just clicked. We loved the personalised service of a small boutique and this meant a personalised service with NO CHASING!!! We could have gone for one of the big names in our area but I know we wouldn’t have got the same service and potentially a much lower sale price.

The takeaway from all this - you don’t need to be big, loud and extroverted to create trust. Sharing your journey, your "why," and even your quiet passion for getting the details right can resonate deeply. As the Female Business Festival shared in the lead-up to their summit, “celebrating the unstoppable women shaping the future of business” is also about recognising all types of leadership—including the quiet, consistent kind.
